Armani Silos: an example of fashionable industrial archaeology
A guided tour to discover a true icon of Milanese creativity. Armani Silos is just that, a space of industrial archeology redesigned to house a newly conceived exhibition center, intended to host a selection of the great stylist and designer’s most extraordinary creations, the maison ‘sdigital archive and a refined palimpsest of temporary exhibitions, especially photographic ones. In today’s trendiest heart of theformer industrial district of Via Tortona, where an anonymous building used to store Nestlé cereals once stood, 2015 saw the birth of Armani Silos. Spread over no less than four floors totaling 4,500 square meters, the museum is Giorgio Armani ‘s gift to the city of Milan on the occasion of his 40th anniversary and in conjunction with Expo 2015. Its architecture, understated yet monumental, is a true tribute to the simplicity and elegance that have always distinguished Armani’s signature style, flawless and timeless.

With our guided tour, fashion enthusiasts and others will be able to discover Armani Silos and the permanent collection housed there, within spaces inspired by rules of uniformity, limpid geometry and very simple rigor. The installation, born from Armani’s own reflection, traces the designer’s 40-year work through the aesthetic themes that have always inspired his creations: from the discretion of androgynous fashion, declined in a feminine and sensual key, to the multicolored ethnic influences of non-Western cultures, up to admiring the extraordinary clothes designed for movie and show business stars. Crossing three levels of the building, we will move from the Stars section to the Daywear section, from the Exoticism area to the Chromatism area, and finally close with the space dedicated to Light. An engagingguided tour, designed to explore fashion in its most authentic essence, recovering the concept around which Giorgio Armani’s entire project revolves: “I chose to call it silos because that’s where grains, material for
living. And so, like food, clothing is also needed to live.” .
