Piazza Duomo and more! This guided tour starts from the heart of Milan, to unravel in a pleasant itinerary in the historic center… to lose ourselves in the history of the city through its squares. So much is always said about the Duomo, but it is never enough! Our guides, more precise than any satellite navigator, between a few hints of history and old anecdotes, will tell us where we came from and where we are going. Are you in? After this walk you will be convinced that after all, Milan’s squares are nothing like those of other cities: perhaps they are less spectacular or less verdant (after all, one must always improve!), but in their diversity they retain a hidden beauty yet to be discovered.
An unusual route among the downtown squares
Leaving Piazza Duomo behind, past Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, Piazza della Scala opens up, squeezed between the celebrated theater and the intriguing Palazzo Marino. Circumnavigate it and be confident: it is only the beginning and from this moment on it will be all a succession of unexpected surprises!
In the small, elegant Piazza San Fedele we will seem to still see a certain Alessandro Manzoni strolling around; just behind, in Piazza Meda, Arnaldo Pomodoro’s revolving Sun will give us magical plays of light. Not even time to fall in love with it and immediately another little salon appears: piazza Belgioioso. And here there would be many stories to tell … but for now it is enough for you to know that one of the palaces overlooking it was precisely the home of our Manzoni! So, from piazzetta to piazzetta (but we don’t want to reveal everything here), we reach the last stop of our tour. We arrived in Piazza San Babila, getting lost among the streets of the historic center to the right, to the left and then to the right again and then left again! And here we say goodbye, among columns, lions and fountains in the shape of mountains that remind us of the Alpine arc (no small feat…signed by Luigi Caccia Dominioni!), to the sound of rushing water. With this guided tour, we are sure that we will once again reveal silent corners and unusual glimpses of our beautiful Milan.
