Discovering Manzoni House
As many may know, this is where Alessandro Manzoni lived from 1813 until his death, just a short walk from La Scala Theater and the present Poldi Pezzoli Museum. Purchased by Alberico De Feller for 106,000 liras, the facade of Casa Manzoni in pure neo-Renaissance style is a tribute that he wanted to give to the city of Milan in the climate of post-unification hope of those years and to the Lombard architectural tradition of terracotta. Our professional guides will immerse you in the evocative atmosphere of Casa Manzoni, following the traces and testimonies of its famous owner. A guided tour on the hunt for anecdotes and curiosities, which will give you a better understanding of the particular historical period in which the writer lived, as well as his brilliant personality.
The places of Alessandro Manzoni
But our cultural itinerary is also ideally completed outside the walls of Manzoni’s house. Recalling the writer’s works and biography, we will mention the other symbolic places of his life, such as the small neo-Romanesque Church of San Babila in which, in March 1785, Alessandro Manzoni was baptized. And a stone’s throw away, in the wonderful historic center of Milan, just a few steps from the Duomo, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II and La Scala, is the Church of San Fedele, the place where Manzoni suffered a nasty fall on the steps of the churchyard. As a result of this accident and after the death of his son, Alessandro Manzoni died on May 22, 1873. A guided tour that, together with his most famous and appreciated works, aims to pay tribute not only to the man Manzoni, who was so attached tohis Milan, but also to the protagonist city, the setting of his legacy.
