Easter 2022, what to do in Milan for a day in the city

We are now in the weeks before Easter and, whether you are in Milan or outside, finally in this 2022 we can go back to wondering what to do on Easter and Easter Monday!
Some people prefer a walk in the mountains, a picnic in the park or in the countryside, a nice bike ride or the classic barbecue! If, on the other hand, you don’t want to leave the city, or you will come to spend the Easter weekend right in Milan with relatives or friends, the Lombard capital will always have something to offer you!
With the arrival of this holiday, tours of the Crypt of St. Sepulchre, a place dear to St. Charles Borromeo and which takes us back to the city’s origins and Milanese religiosity, return.
If you don’t have any ideas, we’ll give you some suggestions: starting the weekend by observing the city from above, climbing the Terraces of the Cathedral, is already a good starting point, to isolate yourself from the hustle and bustle of the city on vacation days!

Lantern-lit tours of the Crypt of St. Sepulchre resume

Guided tours of the Crypt of St. Sepulchre could only start again at Easter time: the underground church was in fact conceived as a declination, all Milanese, of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, the destination of medieval crusaders and pilgrims. In the heart of Milan, in this very church of mysterious charm, extremely linked to Ambrosian history and religiosity, St. Charles Borromeo, the famous bishop of Milan, would have loved to retire a few centuries later. Rich in suggestion, the Crypt of San Sepolcro tells the story of the city from its origins, evidenced by the paving stones, the same stones on which Roman emperors walked in the forum that once occupied the neuralgic area of the Milanese capital. It is no coincidence that, still in the Renaissance, Leonardo da Vinci called this place the “true center” of the city. Descending into the Crypt is an experience not to be missed, especially with a visit by lantern light, to make the atmosphere even more intimate and evocative.
But there is also another way to visit the Crypt of San Sepolcro, viz. accompanied by a professional restorer, who will reveal all the secrets hidden behind the frescoes and decorations of this hidden treasure, recounting the vicissitudes of the latest recent restoration.

Easter 2022 in Milan starts from the Terraces of the Duomo

On the Saturday before Easter Day we wake up already breathing in the festive air. Before we start all the preparations for a lunch with friends and family, we treat ourselves to a visit high above the Cathedral, preceding the Easter celebrations. From the Terraces of the cathedral, in addition to discovering the history of the most beloved symbol of the Milanese, we get a close look at the very large number of statues placed above the spires and hidden between the pillars: wide open to the oddities and curiosities that enrich the decoration by telling very special stories, until we get right below the main spire, the one with the famous Madonnina. Through small arches and rampant arches, the gaze will be lost on a breathtaking panorama that opens onto the whole of Milan to admire from a privileged vantage point the ever-changing city skyline.

Titian in Milan: the exhibition at Palazzo Reale
